The husband is ready and that 10k race...

I have been a slacker these days.
I had my first run since the marathon today.

Yep, that's right.
I waited 10 days before running again.
I think I needed it...
but it could be that I'm just lazy.

I can say it was to help my foot heal and stop hurting....
or I could just be lazy.

Whatever.
It is what it is, right?
I ran an easy 4-5 miles.
I don't know exactly how far I went-
I left my Garmin for the husband.

He did 11 miles today!

He pretty much looks like he LOVED it:
He did amazing- I am very proud of him.
He started out not even 3 months ago...
struggling to get through 3 miles.

Now he has done 11 miles and is 2 weeks from completing
his very first half marathon!

More than once he told me he didn't know if he could do it.
Couldn't imagine ever getting his miles up that high.
I told him I knew he COULD do it, of course.

Clearly, I was right.
 But that's nothing new ;).

(really, though- he took charge of his training...
he got himself up early, got his miles in and pushed himself.
As I said- very, very proud.)

Now, about the Olympics.
(spoilers below- if you haven't seen the men's 10k race and are planning to,
STOP READING NOW!)

Ready?

Okay.

That 10k race??
One of my favorite finishes ever!
I watched it at least 4 times and cried more each time.
(ok, not full on crazy person crying- just tears welling up... a lot)

I am so happy for them both.
I just loved watching their faces after they crossed the finish line.
Priceless.

What a great race.

Have I mentioned that I love the Olympics?
Because I do.

  1. Way to go husband of yours! I wonder if you are running the same half as Kerri and friends. She saw you finish the marathon you just did - great job!

So, I love that race also. Rupp is Kelley's co-workers son so we were cheering him on, quite loudly I might add.

  2. Oh my goodness!! I got so emotional watching that too! What a great feeling for their coach as well, top two to win it!

It's so cool how running catches on to other family members. My hubby does a tiny bit of running sporadically and just the other day he said "I may try a half marathon someday with you" I was a little surprised by that.

Thanks for your very sweet comment and virtual hug today. Life without my sweet 18 year old boy has been hard, but I feel like he is so happy and so lucky to be where he is. I know I'll see him again someday.

  3. I am so impressed with your husband, too! In three months he's made huge progress, he'll do great! I've been backing way off my mileage this month too, just letting my shin heal up and getting ready to tackle a new fall. It's nice to be lazy sometimes. I never used to let myself take so much time off, but now I realize how important it is, both physically and mentally!
