A new year already.
2012 went by way too fast.
Happy 2013!
(lovely grainy New Years self-portrait)
We just spent about 2 weeks in Oregon for the holidays,
so I have a good amount of pictures to share from that.
First, let's briefly see how I did on my 2012 resolution/goals :).
First and only resolution was to
not be scared of speedwork.
Technically, I conquered that one.
I started to do speedwork each week and actually enjoyed it.
(sort of)
I then had to stop when I had my Graves/Thyroid relapse.
Then I never started up again- but not out of fear :).
So I am counting this as half done.
Not scared of it, but haven't tried it again yet.
Then I just had running goals.
1st - A sub 3:40 marathon.
Done! 3:37 at St George.
2nd - Avoid getting injured.
Sort of, but not exactly accomplished.
The Graves doesn't really count,
but I had some nasty hip pain after my 2 marathons in October.
No running-related injuries kept me from any races.
3rd - run at least 1500 miles in 2012.
I stopped keeping track after the thyroid went psycho.
I don't think I got to 1500, though.
Sad.
4th - 4 marathons.
Done! Disney World, Deseret News, St. George and SoJo.
I was a little scared to go look back at my 2012 resolution post.
Turns out it wasn't TOO bad,
but gives me ideas on what I can improve on.
So- now for 2013.
Only one main goal...
Once again, AVOID INJURY.
Part 2 of that goal is to weight train consistently.
I believe that maintaining good strength and muscle tone
will aid in my running and help avoid injury.
Plus, it makes me feel tough and awesome ;).
I will also continue to cross-train and not just run every day.
For me, that means either time on the bike or elliptical.
I have a good amount of races I would like to do,
but I can't do them if my body falls apart.
Speaking of races...
I have a half marathon on Saturday!
Not sure if I am totally ready, but I'm ready enough.
So excited for this cute medal:

Wish me luck!
Once again, Happy New Year to you all!

Sounds like you've got some great things in store! I think every runner has a goal to weight train more, I make that goal (and usually fail) every year. I do pretty well until I'm in the midst of marathon training, then it's all I can do to keep my head above water!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!!! I would say you did awesome in 2012!!! Looks like you have a great year ahead and wishing you lots of health all year long!
ReplyDeleteGood luck in your race!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you ran 4 marathons and here I am stressing about one. :) Definitely agree with your goal to strength train more, me too! And best of luck in your half marathon, I know you'll do great!
