Remember that half marathon I was supposed to do this morning?
Well, that didn't happen.
I was all ready for it.
I had all my many layers ready to go.
(The temps were in the low single digits this morning.)
Everything was set out:
(terrible picture)
I even got to bed nice and early.
I felt good and excited to run.
Then 2am rolled around and my body had other plans.
The stomach bug found me.
It wasn't pretty.
It made me sad and mad.
One of the things I wanted to avoid this year was missing
races that I had already registered for.
Illness is just something that you can't predict, I guess.
Still, I was sad.
I got up and got ready at 6am anyway.
I put on all my running layers and even got into the car.
I knew I shouldn't go, but I just wanted to.
I didn't, though.
I went back inside (because vomit doesn't care about my race plans),
whined to the husband and then went back to sleep...
still dressed in all my layers.
I eventually changed into pajamas,
but kept the compression socks on...
(another terrible picture)
I slept most of the day.
My kids get very concerned when I am sick,
so they were checking on me regularly.
(wow, still terrible)
I still feel so sad about missing the race,
but it is what it is.
There will be more races.
**On another topic, I am trying to get back into DailyMile,
so if you are on DailyMile, add me right here!
I don't know many runners in my daily life, so I need friends ;)

That stomach stuff is the pits. There must have been a higher power in charge this morning and wanted to keep you home safe for some reason. I'm sorry you missed the race too! Just know that is was miserably cold. It was zero degrees when we started and maybe warmed up to about 11 degrees. Pretty funny to see ice and flurries all over everybody's faces and hats and scarves.
ReplyDeleteHope you get feeling better fast!
aaaaw - feel better soon! I hate the stomach flu more than any other sickness. There will be a lot more races coming your way!!
ReplyDeleteNoooo that sucks! I'm glad you didn't try and brave it though.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Added you on DM!
Seriously that flu bug is hitting everyone's house. So sorry, we are still in the middle of it all...have been since the last few days of 2012. I am so dunzo.
